Become your own star with youtube

Ann Kansiime, a local comedian, has a YouTube channel and she says the best way of maintaining such a channel is by posting on it regularly.

What you need to know:

Most people think that YouTube is only meant for them to watch other people’s videos. However, if you have a talent and want to popularise yourself, Rachel Kanyoro writes about how you can open up a YouTube channel.

Using a YouTube video, Amama Mbabazi announced his bid to stand for presidency come 2016. The five-minute video took the masses by surprise and looked like the most unconventional way to break this kind of news.
YouTube is a worldwide social media platform that is basically used for uploading videos. In the 10 years since the first video was posted on YouTube, there are over one billion subscribers.

Entertainment, society, lifestyle, politics name it, YouTube allows you to become your own star. The likes of comedy star, Ann Kansiime have managed to create a big fan base on the social media sites where she reached over 100,000 subscribers that got her an award of the gold button.

Kansiime commends all her success to YouTube “I was in the comedy business for six years and I could hardly make rent at the end of the month but that all changed when I put up my channel because I got attention from other countries,” she says.
Kansiime adds that the most important thing is having a religious following, it is important to put up good content as much as you can because that is what will keep them interested.
However, it takes a lot to have a successful YouTube channel.

Make your channel popular

Have a topic
First decide what you’re going to make videos about, you can make them about anything However, it’s important to note that when it comes to building a subscriber base, it’s best if you stick to a specific topic or niche to keep your audience interested.
Research
Do some research and create a profile of your average viewer. This will help you claim your content to the people that are most likely to become viewers and fans.

Regular posting
Posting regular content is important when it comes to building a successful YouTube channel and subscriber base. Have you thought about how often you’d like to upload new videos?

Time matters
Put into consideration the time you are going to dedicate to your channel.
Building a successful YouTube channel takes time and not just time spent on creating your videos. You’ll also spend time on promoting your videos, building your subscriber base, and interacting with your viewers. You have to be very patient and understand that building a successful YouTube channel takes time.

It’s important to understand that building a successful YouTube channel isn’t going to happen overnight.
You are going to have to put in a lot of work if you want to get noticed and this takes patience. You can’t expect to have your subscriber count or view count where you want it after only a few weeks, or even a few months. It takes time, so don’t give up if you don’t see the results you want immediately. If you stick with it the results will come.

How to use youtube
In his article on PCtech, an online magazine, Simon Kaheru, a media analyst, points out the disadvantage of using a platform like this one to popularise oneself is mainly because fewer people use data on heavy platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and Pinterest.
Kaheru advises that a politician or anyone else that wants to get a quick following and become famous is not to use only one social media platform to do it.

“Social Media only makes sense if you understand the interactivity and virility involved – a video on YouTube must be tweeted round, put on Facebook, shared on WhatsApp, put onto TV, reported on in the newspapers etc,” he says
Kaheru says because of the nature of social media and the platforms we use, more people have joined social media networks because of Android phones making smart phones cheaper to own, the only limitation is internet access.

New gmail feature
Google’s Gmail has added a new feature called “undo send.” The new feature doe not pull back an email from someone’s inbox but rather delays the sending to give you a chance to rethink the email. It gives you up to 30 seconds to pull back an email that you might have accidentally sent to the wrong person or if you have any errors that may be embarrassing.
The feature which has been on trial since 2009 has been officially released by the company. First, you need to check that you have the undo send enabled. From your inbox, choose the gear icon in the top right hand corner and select settings.
