If the Pearl of African Music (Pam) awards were to be held as scheduled last year Swangz Avenue’s Mr DJ would be a big contender in the song of the year category thanks to the combined efforts of some of the hit makers of the year- the Mowzey Radio & Weasel duo, Rabadaba, Peter Miles, KS Alpha, GNL Zamba, Navio, Viboyo, Caesar and Benon, the guy behind Swangz Avenue studios.
The song has enjoyed its rounds on TV stations and rotation on radio and nightclubs and thus it was fitting for an end of year Mr DJ Concert. The venue was Hotel Africana People’s Space and performances started as early as 9p.m. By the stroke of midnight Radio and Weasel were on stage and the fans excitement was taken a notch higher with a fireworks display. The Goodlyfe boys were joined by Benon on stage and as the Mr DJ track started playing, revellers who had been seated could not hold back and left their sits to join their stars on and in front of the stage. One star after another came on stage to drop their Mr DJ verse.
Grace Nakimera picked on the pace with her hits Sukuma, Kiva Kuki and Kawonawo as she jumped into crowd as she performed.
Besides the stage acts, organisers deserve a plus for having employed security which kept on guard both within and outside the venue, to keep pickpockets at bay.
