Pretty little dresses

The grounds at the Uganda Museum were littered in pretty little dresses in all colours and styles at last week’s Blankets and Wine. Photos by Ismail Kezaala.

What you need to know:

Of course, it was going to be dominated by little clothing items, and it did.

There were some women that showed up in the faithful jeans, and others in long dresses. For the majority, however, it was shorts, little skirts and tops, small dresses, dungarees etc.
The ladies got creative, and most of them knocked them dead. From the fashion point of view, Blankets and Wine was a sight to behold.

Tips for wearing short clothes decently

When you wear a short skirt or dress……
You want to be free, yes, but not come off trashy or over-exposed. Therefore, when you step out in a short skirt or dress, remember to;

Don’t be skimpy up and down
Keep the cleavage to a minimum. Dress down top-wise, so that the skirt does not look too aggressive and over the top.
Wear flats instead of high-heels
This makes your legs look shorter than they would with high-heels, and your skirt does not look too short then.

Keep knees together
When sitting, make sure your knees are touching, so people can’t see your panties.

When you bend, bend your knees and make sure your skirt does not ride up. Or, you can keep your knees together and bend your legs, being sure to keep your hemline level.

Wear stockings
If you don’t feel ready to bare your legs, black sheer stockings will allow you to wear your short skirt without feeling ‘naked’. They will, however, also create a more dramatic effect, and nothing beats letting some fresh air onto those legs.

Wear solid-colour bike shorts or tights inside your skirt or dress
They still allow you to show off some skin while eliminating any chances of panty-flashing.
