What you need to know:

There are a number of ways you can display your photos. But if you want them to create an effect, you need to put in some art.

Photos hold memories we all treasure and love to keep around; if not for the beauty they bring to a room, then for the joy and cheerfulness they add to a room. As you stroll through the house, looking at that picture will probably drag you down memory lane to when you were a child or to the wedding day that was five years ago and yet, the picture makes it feel like it was just yesterday.

But, how do you display them such that they not only make the house look nice but also appeal to whoever pays you visit. This is why you need to plan your arrangement; ask yourself, where am I going to hang the photos? Consider the photos you are hanging in the room. Are they childhood photos or photos of your partner or of a trip you took? Which photos are you hanging? Once you have established the photos you want to put up, then you can consider the kind of frames and possibly the amount of space you have to hang the photos.

Collage
If you are hanging photos that are placed in frames, align them horizontally such that they are from the biggest to the wallet size photos. This creates a sense of flow such that looking at them creates a flow of memories.
Sharon Welishe, a decorator recommends trying out alternative decorative frames. “Try using frames that are with a clock, they look really nice and will add a touch of beauty to the room.

Hellen Namaganda, a university student says, “I hang my photos in a frame. I place all my small wallet size photos in one frame although I group them according to numbers. The wallet size photos where I am alone, I arrange them in one frame, then I have a bigger frame when I am with my friends in different photos and the biggest frame carries the wallet size photographs of my family and me. I then hang the different frames in the center of my room although I arrange them horizontally with the smallest frame coming first to the biggest frame.” Namaganda says this style of hanging photos has made her room look unique and different from what other students usually do of hanging photos in the room or hanging posters of their favourite actresses, singers or movie.

Antique frames
Hang a few old pictures or use old frames/ antiques frames; using antiques to hang photos creates a sense of intrigue and some frames can be doubled for other decorations as well.” Welishe says.
She further recommends that if you are hanging photos in the corridor, “if the corridor has a staircase, you can align the photographs in ascending order but they should be lower than those in the living room.”

Hang them on hooks
Esther Nabadda, a business woman says that when hanging her photos, “I consider the impact it brings and when the picture was taken.” Nabadda says that usually, she hangs photos in her living room although she has hooks she hangs them on.
“I hang then on hooks but the order is from events for instance; my wedding day, the birth of my first son, a family photo and a few other memories.”
These are the photos that will welcome any guest she receives in her house; an arrangement of how they have revolved in their lives.

Create stands
You can also have photo stands made for you are a carpentry shop and these will support your photos. Alternatively, you can place them on a table, in the wall unit or on the television stand.
