If your interior walls are plain, there are a number of ideas you can put to use to bring them to life.

If your interior walls are plain, there are a number of ideas you can put to use to bring them to life.
According to Doreen Mirembe, managing director, Adam and Eve Interior Designers, “there are modern floral curtains and traditional curtains on the market and the choice depends on an individual’s taste.”
However, she shares that floral patterns can be overpowering if overdone. “If the carpet, chairs, curtains and accessories are all floral, it would certainly be too much. The tip is to tread carefully and use floral accessories only to enhance the look of a room.”

The wall
“Although wallpaper is not commonly used in Uganda, it is a good way to introduce a pattern. Consider a floral border either in the middle or at the top of a painted wall. You can use floral wallpaper on one end of the room to make that the focal point. This can work well with a display unit because the wood and wall complement each other,” Mirembe explains.
Cream walls can be contrasted with red and green flowers while grey may be softened with yellow and blue flowers.

Cushions
If you have dull chairs, you can opt for embroidered scattering of cushions or you can go for store sold floral cushion covers. Mirembe says you can go for bold floral patterns or subtle patterns depending on your preference.

Table mats
A set of floral table mats makes any dining table look chic just like floral curtains can be a beautiful addition to your windows.
A beautiful lampshade that comes to life when you flip on the switch is always a welcome addition to interior décor, more so if it is elaborated with flowers.

Flower vase
Placing a medium flower vase near the entrance is a way to make your home appear warm and welcoming.
Besides holding fresh flowers, vases can be eye catching when they have floral details. However, ensure that the pattern on the vase does not clash with the actual flowers.

Seat covers
Floral seat covers come in a variety of colours and patterns but that does not mean that any colour can do for you. Mirembe says, the colour of the covers should blend with the rest of the living room décor.
“The cover does not have to match everything in the room, but it should work with the tones and textures of the existing furnishings,” she explains.
You have probably visited homes and seen many people trying to fit giant floral covers into smaller spaces by folding them or you are probably guilty of the same. Folding the covers looks shabby and messy.
Mirembe says the popular setting accommodates sofas around the cover with the coffee table sitting on the cover. Therefore, you can use the length and width of your sofas to estimate the size of floral covers needed for your living room.

She notes that people should not just buy a cover with any kind of flowers simply because you like it, think about your lifestyle, for example, a white is a bad idea for homes with young children.
“We all love creativity, but if you’re unsure of your eye for arranging, keep it simple by choosing flowers in a single colour to avoid mixture and the ugly look that you will get at the end of the day, ”Mirembe explains.
