Going checkered all the way

What you need to know:

Men in print. It is the print season. Men are choosing to wear more colour and patterns at the office, during business travel and out for dinner in town. This print can be worn in three different ways; on your top, the bottom and both, as a three-piece. To show you how you can wear it without coming off as though you are trying too hard, Gloria Haguma brings you the tips.

The checkered bottom
The thing about this detail is that you can opt to go bold, by having your checkered lines bold and colourful, or going bright but keeping it thin and on point.
If you wear this print on your bottom, then add a fun top like a woollen sweater, or a jacket to complete. For an office look, try adding a sweater and tie to your checkered pants. Keep the colour calm or neutral by opting for grey or navy blue.

The top
The ideas here are unlimited. Jackets, ties, shirts, blazers, and even pocket squares are all a good way to stay in touch with your checkered side. Keep the bottom less busy, so that you don’t cause distraction to the top. The bolder the print, the better the statement made.

The suit
A suit can either be the matched pants and blazer, or the two with a blazer added to this. Common belief is that checkered suits are for the older man. But, that is not true. Even if you are 27 years old, you can still work this look, and come off stunning. The older generation look better in the neutral shades and the younger ones do well in brighter ones.
