My parents already knew a lot about my partner because I would take her to family functions. They told me to always put God first in our marriage, to be patient with my partner, always forgive and forget, and always help out on things that society dictates for a wife such as chores, and to always plan our together. Unlike my wife who had a bridal shower and her aunt talked to her for a week, my friends told me to pamper my wife every day. Even the counsellor told me that, “Ivan, the person you are marrying has emotions, ambitions and other differences. Help each other to grow and happily in the things you enjoy.” He cautioned me to maintain good communication. IVAN NAIJUKA, COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT

After learning about my introduction and wedding preparations my workmates said marriage is not an easy institution. It only the church counsellor Mr Musoke who said that I needed to be trustworthy, patient and always pray with my wife. He said prayer is the key to success.

I was told that marriage is a life time commitment which requires sacrifice. It is not a bed of roses and I should be strong. I was however, assured that he who finds a wife finds a good thing and favours before God. My marriage is based on God and I believe it will last.
Ronald Lotet, District environment officer

I was told to jointly handle finances. I was cautioned to love my wife, make her and my family priority and God comes before all.
I was also told to always to first solve issues between the two of us and that only if all fails, we look out for parents, spiritual leaders or highly esteemed leaders. Lastly, I should always resolve any grudges between us before going to bed sleep.
Obedi Kiyaga, telecommunications engineer

I remember my father asking me to see myself as the husband I would love my daughter to get married to and even be better than such a man. He said being exactly like that man would be hard but I should strive to be a better husband every day.
Malachi Kabaale, Records manager

My uncle told me that a successful marriage requires falling in love many times, and always with the same person. He meant that I should never try to leave my wife for anything or anyone. I have to love her unconditionally and all the time.
Derrick Kagimu, Accountant

A friend told me that marriage is a bed of roses. It smells very sweet and looks very beautiful but if you are not careful it has thorns to prick you. This meant to handle marriage with care and love my wife unconditionally.
