Parents lock head teacher out of office

KABALE: Kigata Primary School in Kabale District is yet to open for third term after angry parents locked the school’s head teacher out of office, accusing him of misconduct.
The angry parents camped at the school premises calling for the transfer of Mr Sophan Ampurire, whom they among others things accused of absenteeism and failure to prevail over drunk teachers they blamed for the school’s poor grades.

The head teacher is also accused of denying a primary seven pupil the opportunity to sit for her mock examinations last term claiming that he had smashed the classroom black board.
According to the parent, Mr Frank Nkeitwabangye, Mr Ampurire allegedly forced them to buy two lorries full of sand and two bags of cement to fix the smashed blackboard.
The other accusation is that he forced pupils to study during holidays in total contradiction of ministry of Education guidelines banning classes during holidays.

The parents camped at the school premises until Wednesday when the District Inspector of School, Ms Vastine Beyendera and other authorities from the education department met them and asked the deputy head teacher, Ms Faith Twesiime to act in his capacity as they conduct investigates into the allegations.
“The teaching and learning must immediately begin as we investigate the allegations levied against Mr Sophan Ampurire. The pad locks at the headmaster’s offices should be removed immediately,” Ms Beyendera directed.
Mr Ampurire denied the allegations and said they were aimed at tarnishing his name.
