Age-limit campaign: DP’s Mbidde arrested in Fort Portal

KABAROLE: Police in Fort Portal are holding Democratic Party deputy president Mr Mukasa Mbidde over illegal assembly.
He was arrested together with the party secretary general, Mr Gerald Selanda at post office as they addressed journalists about the planned amendment of the Constitution.
The Rwenzori region police spokesperson Ms Lydia Tumushabe said the suspects have been charged with holding illegal assembly.
Security has been tightened in Fort Portal town with police deployment and patrol cars on almost all the streets following reports of a planned demonstration by the DP members.
Kabarole District police commander, Mr Musa Tibakirana told this reporter that they deployed after getting reports of Mr Mbidde and his colleagues’ plan.
"We have been getting information since Thursday that the K’ogikwatako team is around and wants to demonstrate in Fort Portal ahead of the Empango celebrations and even go to King Oyo's palace. We’re ready for them," he said.
