Army, police release photos of wanted Magara murder suspects
Kampala- Police and army yesterday released photos of the two most wanted suspects in the murder of Susan Magara.
Magara was kidnapped on February 7 and kept in captive for 20 days before she was killed and dumped at Entebbe Expressway in Kigo, Wakiso District.
In a statement issued to journalists by deputy police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the suspects’ image include of Mr Yakub Byensi, a resident of Kibuye II, Lwanga Village, Makindye Division, Kampala and Mr Abduhakim Lugolobi, a resident of Mulama Kitebere Village, Katikamu, Luweero District.
“He [Byensi] is a regular at Kings Way and Usafi mosque. He mostly travels using boda bodas. [Mr] Lugolobi mostly moves by boda boda and is a regular in Konge and Usafi mosque,” reads the statement.
Asked to explain why they zeroed on the two suspects yet joint army and police operations have arrested 36 suspects in Magara murder, Mr Onyango said they are the top leaders of the criminal gang that planned and executed her murder.
“Each and every suspect in this case is key because they played different roles. The suspects we have arrested said they are the top leaders who planned and executed Magara murder,” Mr Onyango said.
On April 28, police and army raided a mosque in Usafi Market in Kampala and arrested several people they said were linked to Magara’s killing.
The forces also rescued several children and women they said were being held captive in the mosque and the vicinity. The deputy army and defence spokesperson, Lt Col Deo Akiiki, on inquiry on whether the army was aware about the released images, he said: “How do you think we arrived to those images? It is because the ones we arrested have identified them.”
Mr Onyango said police force and its sister security agencies shall continue with the investigations into the kidnap and murder of Magara.
Public appeal
Security agencies appealed to whoever has any information or who have seen them anywhere to pass it in confidence to the nearest police station.
While addressing a joint press conference on Monday, Mr Onyango and Lt Col Akiiki announced that suspects in Magara murder face charges of terrorism and other offences, including of ransom, murder, defilement, human trafficking, kidnap and sexual violence.
