  • BLB has of late faced public criticism over leasing out land housing public facilities to private developers and the recent victims being Nabagereka Primary School in Mengo-Kisenyi Parish and Mengo-Bakuli Market, whose land was parceled out to private developers.

Wakiso. Authorities in Makindye/Ssabagabo Municipality have accused Buganda Land Board (BLB) officials of leasing out a piece of land belonging to a public health centre in Ndejje Division.
According to Mr Sulaiman Ssejjengo, the mayor of Ndejje Division, Mutungo Health Centre II had four acres of land but is left with only one acre.
He expressed fear that the continued giveaway of public land will leave the municipality with no land to expand public facilities.
However, Mr Dennis Bugaya, the BLB public relations officer, said the land belongs to Buganda Kingdom.
He said when the municipality regularised their tenancy on the piece of land that houses their headquarters, they applied for a lease from the BLB and duly paid all the costs to a tune of Shs46m.

Public criticism
BLB has of late faced public criticism over leasing out land housing public facilities to private developers and the recent victims being Nabagereka Primary School in Mengo-Kisenyi Parish and Mengo-Bakuli Market, whose land was parceled out to private developers. BLB was established in 1993 to manage part of the assets returned to the Kabaka under the Traditional Rulers Restitution of Assets & Properties Act 1993. BLB contributes at least Shs7b to Mengo every year through collection of rent and granting of leases.
