Busoga's hereditary chief Menhya Kakaire dies

Jinja- The kingdom of Busoga has confirmed the death of Prince Fred Menhya Kakaire Zirabamuzale, the hereditary Chief of Bugweri County.

Zirabamuzale, 90, died on Saturday at his home in Igombe , Iganga district.

 The chairperson of the Busoga Chiefs Royal Council, Prince Nkuutu Samuel Zirabamuzale, said the deceased has been battling diabetes and high blood pressure for the last four years.

Prince Nkuutu who is also the 8th son of the deceased said when his father’s condition worsened three years ago, he began running the cultural affairs of the hereditary chief of Bugweri County.

The deceased was also the secretary of the Busoga Chiefs Royal Council during the reign of late Henry Wako Muloki, the former Kyabazinga of Busoga.

 His body has been taken to Jinja Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem. 

WHO IS PRINCE KAKAIRE?

The deceased was an orthopeadist. He was born in December, 1934 to the late Yekonia Menhya Kibedi Zirabamuzale and the late Erinah Kafuuko Musasi in Iganga district.

His studied at Namilyango Primary School,  Mityana Secondary School and Busoga College Mwiri before attaining a diploma in orthopaedics and physical therapy at Mulago Hospital.

From 1960 he served as an orthopaedist surgeon both at Mulago and Jinja hospitals before establishing Menhya Zirabamuzale Clinic on Lubas Road in Jinja which closed shop due to his poor health state.

 He was married to Iren Namukasa Kakaire and Margret Namuwaya Kakaire (RIP). He is survived by several children.
