A Chinese national was on Friday shot dead by two gunmen who then took off with unspecified amounts of money.
Ms Yondi Yang, who was a manager with Nile Steel and Plastics Ltd, was attacked at around 3pm by the two gunmen who disguised themselves as customers who had come to buy iron sheets.
Footage captured by CCTV shows that the gunmen rode into the factory premises on a motorcycle and proceeded to Ms Yang’s office.
Factory workers who spoke to the Daily Monitor said the gunmen first negotiated with Ms Yang but later turned around and shot her in the chest using a pistol.
She was rushed to Namirembe Hospital but died after 30 minutes. Her body was transferred to Mulago hospital for a postmortem to be carried out.
An employee only identified as Enock said the gunmen may have attacked Ms Yang because it is the time of the month when she pays salaries.
“We were supposed to be paid today (Idd Day) by Yang, so I think those assailants knew that she had gone to the bank to withdraw our salaries and then they decided to shoot her and take the money,” Mr Enock said.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Frank Mwesigwa said police has launched a manhunt for the two assailants but also criticised the private security firm that guards the premises of Nile Steel and Plastics Ltd.
