City business man, Mr Godfrey Muhairwe who allegedly shot and killed two people he suspected of extorting him has been charged with murder and remanded to Luzira Prison.
The 44 year dealer in boda boda motorcycles was on Wednesday charged with two counts of murder and another count of attempted murder before the Makindye Magistrate Court presided over by grade one magistrate, Ms Stella Amabilisi. However, Mr Muhairwe was not allowed to take plea on grounds that the charges against him are grave (capital offences) and can only be tried by the High Court.
He was remanded to Luzira Prison until October 28 when the case is coming up for further mention.

According to prosecution, Mr Muhairwe on October 15 at Ndeeba, a city suburb with malice afore thought murdered Matya Lukwawa , a police officer attached to the Flying Squad Unit as he allegedly tried to extort Shs20 million from him (Muhairwe).
Prosecution led by State attorney Charlotte Kwikiriza also alleges that Mr Muhairwe shot and killed Muhammad Kiwana, formerly a security operative with the Rapid Response Unit.
In another count, Mr Muhairwe attempted to murder Mr Juma Deogratius Jaaya who managed to survive the shooting with serious injuries.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga on Monday said, “We also found out the license of the gun he used in the shooting has expired so we are charging him with another offence of illegal possession of a firearm.”
The shooting happened at a fuel station in Ndeeba last Thursday evening. The businessman was arrested and detained at Katwe Police Station since then.
Police recovered two pistols; one owned by Mr Muhairwe and another owned by the ex-police officers.

Detectives also recovered Shs20 million at the scene and a passport with the businessman’s photograph but with different names.
Mr Enanga said the names on the passport have been traced to a person in Lwengo District.
When the businessman was interrogated by police, he claimed the ex-police officers wanted to extort money from him thus the shootout.
After the incident, Flying Squad Unit commander Herman Owo’Mugisha wondered what his operative, Jaaya, was doing in Ndeeba since he hadn’t deployed him there.
