Convict commits suicide

A man who was previously sentenced to three months community service over attempted suicide has allegedly taken away his life by hanging. Before his death, Stephen Mambgwe, a resident of Kololo village in Ofua Sub-county in Adjumani District, was sentenced to community service at Ofua Health Centre III.
But at the weekend, his body was discovered hanging on a tree in a nearby bush in his village. People who saved the deceased at his first attempted suicide told police that, the convict made an alarm while hanging on a mango tree and he was cut off from the rope on which he was found hanging.

“We acted swiftily and cut the rope on which he was hanging but he sustained severe injuries on the neck,” one of the residents, only identified as Mr Igama told the Daily Monitor.
Mr Andrew Kaggwa, the Adjumani district police commander who confirmed the incident, said he had assigned a police officer to counsel the deceased and dissuade him against committing suicide but all was in vain.
“He the (deceased) was counseled on several occasion but all our efforts were fruitless and that was why we had forwarded the matter to courts of law,” Mr Kaggwa said.
In related development, a boda-boda rider at Araka stage in Adjumani town council also committed suicide on Saturday night.

Denise Edema hanged himself in his rental grass thatched house in Paridi village in Adjumani town council. His lifeless body was discovered by his wife whom he had instructed to go and collect money for their sick child’s treatment.
Mr Kilo Atoba, the local council I chairperson of Paridi village attributed the incident to family disagreements between the deceased and his wife who he said had prior to Edema’s death collected all the household items and deserted their marital home following domestic wrangle.
Mr Kaggwa said since the start of September, at least three people have committed suicide by hanging.
