Elephant chase leaves one dead, two injured in Kasese

One person has been confirmed dead and two others injured after they were reportedly shot by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) officials during an elephant chase in Kihara ward, Kasese municipality.
UWA officials have taken a month trying to drive a stray elephant from people's gardens in Rukooki in the outskirts of Kasese town.
Mr Ceasar Julius Tusingwire, the Regional Police Commander (RPC) Rwenzori East, confirmed the incident saying that it happened on Thursday evening.
"It’s true one unidentified man in his 30s died and two others injured including a school child during the animal chase" Mr Tusingwire said.
He faulted UWA for not following up the guidelines of alerting the general public of massive shootings so that they take precautions.
"We have already recorded statements of the injured and have called the pathologist to confirm to us whether the injured and the deceased were shot by bullets as our investigations continue," Mr Tusingwire said.
He revealed that the school girl has minor injury on the head while the old man got injured in the abdomen.
"We have already summoned UWA officials and they are already with us recording statements in relation to the incident" Mr Tusingwire said

Mr Gessa was not aware of the other two who were injured in the operation saying that the officers in charge were to explain what happened.
