President Yoweri Museveni has apointed NRM mobiliser and former Uganda Peoples party stalwart, Henry Mayega as Uganda’s new ambassador to China, replacing Ambassador Charles Wagidoso.

In a telephone interview with the Daily Monitor, Mr Mayega (below) confirmed his appointment and said:” I am aware of that appointment and I am in possession of the appointment letter.’’ He, however, said he did not know when he commences his duties.

A former UPC senior member and vice president for Buganda region, Mr Mayega crossed to the ruling NRM party in 2010 and has since been working as a special mobiliser for the party.

Commenting on Mr Mayega’s appointment, the UPC deputy president, Mr Joseph Bbosa, said he was most likely being rewarded for crossing to the NRM because he had not been rewarded earlier.
“The NRM party is simply trying to show that they deliver on their promises. Under NRM, one’s qualifications and one’s capabilities are no longer criteria for getting a political appointment,” Mr Bbosa added.

However, Mr Mayega refuted the claims saying he has what it takes to get the job done so people can go ahead and say what they want to say.
