What you need to know:

  • The electoral commission last week announced that election of the village chairperson (LCI) will take place on November 21 and parish chairperson (LCII) on December 7.

The opposition forum for Democratic change (FDC) National Executive Committee (NEC) on Thursday resolved to extend the election date for the party president over Local council (LCI) polls.
The party had initially gazetted November 17 as the date for the delegates conference where the party president would also be elected at Namboole Stadium.

Mr Harold Kaija, the party's deputy secretary general said the party has pushed the elections to November 24 to give the party ample time to prepare for the LCI elections.
“ After the party NEC finding the party presidential elections colliding with the LCI elections where we are set to participate, they decided to push the election date to allow our Party grass root leaders to actively participate in those polls,” Mr Kaija told journalists.

The extension comes at a time when the candidates vying for FDC party presidency top position are already in the field campaigning across the country.
The candidates include the incumbent Gen Mugisha Muntu, former Kumi MP Mr Patrick Amuriat, Kawempe south MP Mr Mubarak Munyagwa, Moses Byamugisha and Dan Matsiko.
