Five dead in nasty accident along Kampala-Gulu road

Five people have been confirmed dead and several others seriously injured in a motor accident along Kampala-Gulu highway.

An eye witness told Daily Monitor that the accident happened at Wakisanyi village, between River Kafu and Kigumba in Kiryandongo District when a fully packed bus travelling to Gulu District collided with a Prado registration number UAY727Q heading to Kampala.

Police say the accident happened when the driver of the Prado tried to overtake three moving vehicles in a row and collided head on with the bus registration number UAQ 045Q, which was moving into the opposite direction.

Police say the bus went off road and fell on its left side.
Five of the six occupants in the Prado died on spot but no injuries were registered among the passengers in the bus.

Some of the deceased were identified as Robert Ssuubi Irumba of Kireka C, Wakiso; Moses Mukwaya of Njeru TC Buyikwe district and Cpl Ronald Twebembeire, a police officer who was reportedly driving the Prado. Two bodies of male adults are yet to be identified.

All the bodies were taken to Kiryandongo hospital mortuary.
The accident is registered at Kiryandongo police station under TAR 144/2017.
