Five killed in Kampala, Kigezi

KAMPALA. At least five people were killed in Kampala and Kigezi region in the wee hours of Monday morning.
Two people were hacked by thugs at Loris petrol station in Nakuwadde zone, Bulenga, in Kyengera town council, in Wakiso whereas two people were beheaded in Kisoro and one in Kanungu District.

Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima, identified those killed at Bulenga as Andrew Byonanebyeye, a fuel pump attendant and Ibrahim Sengoba, a charcoal truck driver who had parked at the station resting.
Mr Kayima said Byonanebyeye was tied with a rope before he was strangled whereas his co-victim Sengoba was dragged out of his truck and hit with a sharp object on the head.

“It was an unfortunate incident that happened in the outskirts of the city and this calls for increased vigilance on the side of police and public. These people were killed in the morning at around 5am,” Mr Kayima said
Although Mr Kayima said police was yet to establish the amount of money that was taken by the thugs, a police detective who spoke on condition of anonymity since he is not authorized to speak for the Force said Shs12m was suspected to have been stolen by the criminals.

In a related development, police in Kisoro Municipality have embarked on investigations to establish the suspects who beheaded two men at Kamonyi village, Northern Division of Kisoro town. Kigezi regional police spokesperson, Elly Mate, identified the deceased as Kefa Mugabe and Moses Mftundinda who had been workers of Rev Can Baker also a resident of Kamonyi village.
“It was shocking to find two people in same house beheaded without the knowledge of neighbours. We have so far arrested the deceased’s co-worker to help us in the investigations,” Mr Mate said.
In a similar incident, police in Kanungu District are hunting for criminals that attacked and cut to death a 56-year-old woman, Dinah Twinobusningye, a resident of Mutojo cell, Bushura parish, Kirima Subcounty.

“Our detectives visited the scene immediately after receiving information. They extracted some exhibits and we are now hunting for the suspected killers,” Mr Mate said.
By the time of filing this story, the Bulenga bodies had been taken to Mulago hospital for a postmortem, Kisoro bodies had been taken to Kisoro hospital morgue whereas the Kanungu body was handed over to relatives for burial after postmortem.

Meanwhile, police in Kampala have expressed worry over the increased cases of vehicle theft in the last three months. Mr Kayima said from August to October over 136 vehicles have been stolen and only 36 have been recovered. Police tasked drivers to park vehicles at places that have tight security and should avoid lending vehicles to strangers.
