A committee comprising chairpersons will be in charge of the investigation.

NAMAYINGO- President Museveni has directed the Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen Aronda Nyakairima, to immediately open investigations into a spate of killings that have occurred in Namayingo District over the last one year.

Gen Aronda made the revelation last week as he toured parts of the district where five gun-related killings have been registered.

The most recent one happened on February 1, when unidentified thugs killed the LC3 Chairman of Buyinja Sub-county, Mr David Tito Okware.

He was gunned down at his home in Namayingo Town Council. Mr Okware, a gold trader, was also the Publicity Secretary of the NRM in Namayingo District.

“I was instructed by the President to find out why the people in this area are not secure and living in fear,” Gen Aronda said.

Prior to Mr Okware’s killing, unidentified thugs had in May last year attacked Idokwe Police post and killed the officer in-charge, Cpl. Julius Owori.
Other unidentified thugs also struck in July killing local businessman Sande Okumu Mboolu at his home in Namayingo Town.

In between the killings, thugs had also attacked the Electoral Commission offices in the district and grabbed an AK-47 rifle from Constable Peter Butale who was on duty.

Gen Aronda told the people of Namayingo that a special committee comprising all LCI chairpersons from across the district is to be constituted to establish the cause of killings.

He promised to convene monthly security meetings in the district until stability returns.

“We can’t allow these gun shootings to continue because they are tarnishing image of our government,” he said.

Namayingo District Chairman, Mr Wilber Obondo Waiswa, blamed the insecurity on uncoordinated transfer of crime preventers and laxity on the part of security operatives who he accused of allegedly ignoring tip-offs from the residents.
