Lwengo. Government is to prioritise education as a major tool to fight against poverty and transform Uganda into a middle-income economy, Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has said.
“Besides infrastructure, education will be a major sector in the country’s development. Government is committed to creating an enabling environment for the provision of quality education,” Mr Ssekandi said during a thanksgiving service for Kkingo Primary School in Lwengo District last week.

He added that as government plays its role, parents must be interested in the learning of their children to ensure they grow into responsible citizens.

Teachers urged
Mr Ssekandi appealed to teachers to continue inculcating discipline and positive character among pupils.
Mr Joseph Mulumba, the Lwengo District secretary for production, said Kkingo Primary School has for the last three years contributed remarkably to the education standards in the district and the region in general with better performances.

Mr Robert Asiimwe, the school director, attributed their success to parents meeting their obligations in time, which he said enables pupils to remain focused on their studies
All the 30 candidates who sat for their Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) at the school scored between Aggregate 4 and 8.
The school, despite being located in a rural area, came fifth in national performance and the best in social studies in the recently released PLE results.
