Grief as famous radio, TV talkshow host passes on

The news of the death of renowned veteran journalist and the Christian-based Top Radio/television broadcaster Buyondo Afrika Ddamulira was yesterday received with shock across the media fraternity and the general public.
Ddamulira, 40, passed on at Nakasero Hospital yesterday at around 4pm after suffering a blood clot that affected his brain and lungs, hence causing system failure.
Many could not believe the death of a man who, last week, hosted his television political programme ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

Pastor Franklin Mondo Mugisha of Empowerment Church and long time friend of Ddamulira, said that he met Buyondo recently who told him he had been involved in an accident some time back but said it had not affected him. “He cried of chest pain and headache the whole of last week until he collapsed while at his home in Nkumba on Wednesday,” he said.
Mr Mugisha said he was rushed to Kisubi Hospital and later referred to Mulago but his health kept deteriorating. He later got assistance from the President’s office and ended up at Nakasero Hospital. He died upon arrival.
Pastor Mugisha described Buyondo as pro-people, very calm and a serious researcher.
Mr Richard Kyeyune, a former councillor in Makindye Division and longtime friend for Ddamulira, said he was very intelligent and one who could not easily be intimidated.
“On several occasions, he told people he hosted at the show to take care because he had young children to look after,” he said.
Born in 1972 to Mr and Ms John Ddamulira, Buyondo attended Golo Primary School, Kakoma Secondary School in Rakai and Institute for Technical Education Kyambogo. He started his journalism career at the Lipoota newspaper before joining Impact FM as a broad caster.
