Gulu residents rush for free diesel as another fuel tanker overturns
Gulu residents rushed to siphon free fuel following an accident in which another fuel tanker over turned along Gulu-Juba Highway Sunday morning.
The incidence happened at custom corner in Patuda parish, Layibi division a few kilometers from Gulu municipality.
The Diesel fuel tanker registration No. ZE2035 was reportedly from Kenya heading to Juba, South Sudan, capital. The driver of the truck is reported to have escaped with minor injuries. Police fire bridage had to intervene to disperse the locals who flocked the accident scene to tap free fuel.
Police say they are still making inquiries into the accident.
On April 5, residents in Lambo village in Busiu Sub-county, Mbale District, rushed to have a share of spilled petroleum products after another South Sudan bound fuel truck overturned on the Tororo-Mbale highway.
The truck belonging to Hass Petroleum overturned at around 1pm.
Mr Francis Walato, an eyewitness, told Daily Monitor the driver and his co-passenger had been trapped inside the truck but were rescued by residents who rushed to the scene.
Police, which interned in time, had again to battle away residents who were trying to siphon fuel from the truck’s tanker.
