Just hours after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura said the government could seek the help of Interpol to arrest the Australian-based Ugandan cardiologist, Dr Aggrey Kiyingi over his alleged involvement in rebel activities, the medic has denied the accusations in a video that was posted on You-tube.
In a video posted on Facebook on Wednesday, Dr Kiyingi said government had fabricated charges against him because it is in panic over his 2016 presidential bid.
Below is the full statement
Over the last few weeks, a number of allegations and pronouncements have been made by the government against my good name and a number of people have been arrested and accused and charged with alleged crimes.
As the initial response to these malicious and false allegations, I would like to state as follows;
I have never ordered the killing of any Muslim Cleric or of anyone else for that matter. I have never financed the killing of any Muslim cleric in Uganda. I have never had any dealings with the ADF and I have never financed the ADF. I have never formed or been associated with the alleged Federal Alliance rebel group. I have never been involved in terrorism.
It is now common knowledge and I would like to confirm that I intend to stand against Mr Museveni in the 2016 presidential elections. To this end, my team of dedicated and vigilant supporters has been traversing the country in a pre-marketing campaign, distributing my political platform business cards as a prelude to my coming back to Uganda to register and launch my political platform.
This has been a great success and has scared the government. They [my people] have not broken any law. What they have been doing is perfectly legal under the constitution of Uganda. However, because of the big mass response, the government has harassed my supporters, made arbitrary arrests, tortured and beaten my supporters for carrying those political cards and some have actually been killed in order to cover up and in order to prevent me from coming to Uganda to launch my political platform. The government has now come up with false and ridiculous accusations against my name arrested a number of people in a bid to threaten the population from supporting me to oust Mr Museveni in 2016.

Person living in ‘no-man’s land’ is Tanzanian: court

The African Court on Human and Peoples rights has ruled that Tanzania violated the rights of its citizen who has been living in ‘no-man’s land’ on the Kenyan border since 2014.

My pre-marketing campaign has been under the umbrella of the Uganda Federal Democratic Organisation. This is a political platform. This is not a rebel group. This is not a terrorist group. And has no link whatsoever to the alleged Federal Alliance rebel group as quoted by the government.
According to my original schedule, I had planned to come to Uganda this month or next month to officially launch my political platform and register for the presidential elections.
However, the government has been in panic and has scrambled to find a way to prevent me from coming to Uganda and to threaten my supporters hence the false and serious allegations now prevailing in the country.
However, fellow Ugandans, I would like to assure you that I am not threatened by Mr Museveni or the government’s machinations and I am prepared at all costs to lead the people of Uganda to freedom so that they can regain their dignity and their country.
Finally, I would like to pass on my heartfelt condolences to all those that have lost their loved ones. But take heart, there is light at the end of the tunnel. But in the end and hopefully this will be soon, the perpetrators of these heinous crimes will have to answer for their atrocities.
