KAMPALA.
Rival Muslim factions have reunited after over 20 years of disputes with the Mufti of Uganda apologizing to the Muslim community for the wrongs during his reign.

“I request you to forgive me for what did not go well during the period of disunity in our community and I have also forgiven you,” said Sheikh Shaban Mubajje amidst Takbirs (loud chants of praising God).

Sheikh Mubajje said that although he is the supreme leader of Muslims in the country, he makes mistakes, but asked for forgiveness, guidance and counselling where he wrongs.

“I am not an angel that I don’t sin; I’m a mere servant before you. Welcome back home and this is the time for all of us to move as a solid group,” he said.

The Mufti’s apology comes after Muslims parted ways from Old Kampala accusing the former of disposing of Muslim properties under unclear circumstances.

Flanked by the different leaders of the various Muslim factions, Mr Mubajje said the convention will help Muslims to have a common voice amidst challenges they are facing.

The reunion at the former Gadhafi National Mosque follows a series of secret meetings between, the detained Tabliq leader Mr Kamoga, the former Tabliq leader Sheikh Sulaiman Kakeeto and the Mufti of Uganda.

Among other leaders present at the historical convention were the Mufti of Burundi Sheikh Abubakar Sengora, Electoral Commission chairperson Hajj Badru Kiggundu, Hajj Abdul Nadduli, Sheikh Sulaiman Kakeeto and other Sheikhs from Kibuli.
