Sembabule- Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi yesterday arrived in Mawogola County, Sembabule District ahead of his 21st coronation anniversary today.
The Kabaka was welcomed by Buganda’s health minister Ben Mukwaya who chaired the team organising the celebrations.
The Kabaka first toured a dam at Lwamatala which was commissioned by his father, Edward Mutesa.
He then proceeded to his just refurbished palace which was destroyed during the 1966 crisis. He also toured a farm run by Mr Joram Mwebaza, a prominent farmer in the area.
The Kabaka also visited different agricultural projects in the five sub-counties of Sembabule as a way of encouraging his subjects to practice agriculture.
By press time, the Kabaka had not delivered his speech.
Speaking at Mr Mwebaza’s farm, Buganda’s premier Charles Peter Mayiga urged the youth to look up to the successful elders in the area as inspiration to develop.
“The Kabaka wants you to grow up knowing that you are the future leaders; emulate the older generation who have succeeded in farming and other activities,” he said.
Right from Kyengera on Masaka Road to Sembabule, people decorated the road side and others were seen dancing and drinking.
Mawogola is significant in Buganda’s recent history because it is the place to which Kabaka Mutesa fled during the 1966 crisis on his way to exile.
Last year’s celebrations were marked by the beginning of reconciliation efforts between the kingdom and the central government which agreed to return some of the cultural institution’s properties.
Today, Kabaka Mutebi is expected to participate in the immunisation of children at Mawogola County headquarters.
