Kayihura vows to enforce discipline among officers

Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura has said indiscipline in the Force cannot be tolerated.

The IGP, who also said he will work towards improving police welfare as well as consolidating gains so far made, was speaking during celebrations to mark police’s 100 years in Kamuli at the weekend.
However, Gen Kayihura said there was need to increase the Force’s budget to enable officers go for further training as well as enhancing police numbers.

The police force, the IGP said, can only thrive on discipline supported by modern equipment that has the capacity to fight crime.
“My mission and vision is to rebrand the Force that can effectively manage cases, give reports where they are needed and improving the welfare of officers and their families,” Gen Kayihura said.

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, who launched the celebrations, also flagged off a marathon that seeks to raise awareness against acid attacks, which continue to increase in different parts of the country.
Ms Kadaga commended police for bringing services closer to the people and fighting crime.

She said: “I want police to make women more visible and promote more of them in the Force.”

Ms Kadaga also handed over a highway patrol vehicle and two motorcycles, which will enhance the work of mobile policing in Busoga north.
