Kisoro- A section of local leaders in Kisoro District have appealed to President Museveni to consider appointing former Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura to a cabinet position.
Gen Kayihura hails from Kisoro, the south-western tip of the country’s border with Rwanda, populated by the Bafumbira community.

The district council speaker, Mr Amos Hakizimana, on Tuesday said the dropping of Gen Kayihura without appointing him to any influential position of leadership shall undercut NRM party support in the district where Mr Kayihura has been referred to as the pillar of the ruling government and a bridge between locals and central government.

NRM influence at stake
The district NRM party vice chairperson, Mr Ramathan Ndikuyeza, said the sacking of Gen Kayihura without an alternative influential appointment would dampen the spirit of other NRM party cadres serving the country in different capacities.

He said Gen Kayihura deserves a ministerial appointment based on his record of building new police stations and barracks, equipping police stations with vehicles and motorcycles and introducing community policing to detect and fight and detect crime.

The district councillor for Nyundo Sub-county, also the district secretary for health, Mr Izdol Tumusime, said Gen Kayihura has been a loyal cadre of the NRM party at both the local and national levels.
