Lightening kills pupil, injures four family members

KIBUKU: A family in Lyatama Sub-county, Kibuku District is in agony after lighting struck and killed a 9-year-boy following a heavy down pour on Wednesday evening.

Zakaria Nabunyaga, a primary three pupil at Kiryolo primary school, was struck dead at about 3.00pm while four of his siblings were left with severe burns.
The injured who include the father Mr James Samanya; his wife, Ruth Nakasango and two other children are currently admitted to Mbale regional hospital with severe burns.

The Bukedi region police spokesperson, Mr Sowedi Kamulya said the deceased was struck as he was crossing from the kitchen to the main house.

“But, other family members were hit inside the main house. It was unfortunate but a challenge still lies ahead to try and continue sensitizing our people on the measures like installation of lightening arresters,” Mr Kamulya said.
