KAMPALA.

Live bullets and teargas have this afternoon rocked Kiseka market as police dispersed a demonstration between traders of Kiseka market and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) law enforcement team.

The scuffle started after the KCCA enforcement team impounded vehicles parked along Mpaabana road in Kiseka, confiscating their number places without giving an explanation.

The traders said KCCA officials had interfered with their work which was against their rights and demanded an explanation.

When this became futile, the angry traders pelted stones at KCCA officials attracting police intervention.

Mr Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said at least eight people were being held in their custody for unlawful demonstration.

“There have been these wrangles and we have arrested the suspects. We are investigating the matter with KCCA to see how we can calm the whole situation,” Mr Luke said.

This is not the first time the traders of this market have been demonstrating, last year the police also fired teargas and bullets injuring many as two sects of the market went up in arms against each other over several disagreements.
