Kampala- Motorcyclists yesterday braved long queues to register at the six different centres set up by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), to streamline operations of boda bodas in the city.
The exercise, which requires all motorcycle operators to submit their particulars, was carried out at City Hall, Makindye, Kawempe, Lubaga, Nakawa and Kampala Central division headquarters.
KCCA spokesperson Peter Kaujju described the exercise as peaceful following several meetings with the cyclists and their leaders to sensitise them.

“This process aims at streamlining and planning for boba boda operations in the Kampala and to find a way on how to fight the rampant crime incidents which have been happening,” Mr Kaujju said.
“After the registration exercise, we shall provide them with permanent numbers, helmets and reflector jackets with same numbers,” he added.
Mr Kaujju also said the exercise would solve complaints from banks over unpaid loans, robberies and murder cases.
According to the authority spokesperson, KCCA has so far registered more than 550 private motorcycles and are expected to register more boda bodas since the exercise is slated to end this month.
“No one will be allowed to work within the central division without a registration number because we have managed to have an agreement with them,” Mr Kaujju warned.
Mr John Ssemujju, a member of the boda boda representative committee at KCCA, said the work is progressing well and they expect all the cyclists to register because it is for their own good.
“Some of the boda boda cyclists were being threatened by the group of Boda boda 2010 who have been opposing the process, but at last they accepted after police insisted to kickoff registration,” he added.
Kampala Metropolitan Police publicist Ibin Ssenkumbi said the exercise kicked off peacefully in all divisions and urged all riders to register .
