What you need to know:

The singer had been arrested on charges of obtaining money by false pretence from a university lecturer.

Kampala- Desire Luzinda, a renowned artiste, was last Saturday evening released on police bond after Maj Juma Seiko intervened.

Desire was arrested by immigration officials at Entebbe International Airport on orders of police after failing to respond to police summons to record statements over allegations of obtaining money by false pretence and aiding her former Nigerian boyfriend to acquire a Ugandan passport.

She had just returned from Congo-Brazzaville for a concert.

A police source told Daily Monitor that Maj Seiko personally went to Special Investigations Division (SID) where Desire had been held to seek for her release.

Police spokesman Fred Enanga said Desire was released on police bond after she committed herself to return to police tomorrow to give detectives more information about the two cases under investigations.

“It is true Maj Seiko, like any other concerned friend, came to police to see why Ms Luzinda had been arrested and we informed him about why we took the decision. He sought for harmony, which we accepted and gave her bond. We know he is a decent man and would remind her to return to police on dates stated on the police release bond,” Mr Enanga said yesterday.

Police say Desire received Shs24 million from a lecturer at Cavendish University claiming she was to use it for a concert at Serena Hotel and would refund it.

However, she disappeared after she was given the money, which prompted the lecturer to report a criminal case of obtaining money by false pretence to police.

Fake passport
In another case, police contend that Ms Luzinda helped her former boyfriend Franklin Emuobor, a Nigerian, to obtain a Ugandan passport in the names of Franklin Baguma, which is illegal.

Mr Emuobor is said to be out of the country but police are processing documents to arrest him using Interpol on separate fraud cases.

Recently, police warned another socialite Zarinah Tlale, popularly known as Zari, after she jumped police bond over pornography charges relating to her leaked sex tapes, which were circulated on social media prompting the police to summon her.

When she left for South Africa, Ms Tlale never reported back to police.

Rampant police summons

Police summons and arrests have in the recent past characterised the life of Ms Desire Luzinda. Last year, Ethics and Integrity minister Simon Lokodo asked police to investigate, arrest, lock up and also isolate the singer over her leaked nude pictures on social media.

Rev Fr Lokodo in an interview with this newspaper stated that Ms Luzinda violated the anti pornography law by exposing her nudity to the entire public, thus should be investigated, let alone be arrested.

Recently, the singer’s ex-lover, Franklin Emuobor, dismissed claims by Rev Fr Lokodo that he had been arrested.

Speaking at the Uganda media centre, the minister said Emuobor had been arrested by Interpol.
But Emuobor, one of the parties alleged to have leaked the singer’s nude pictures, appeared on social media in a video, saying the minister is lying.
“I am just trying to clarify the fact that I have never been arrested anywhere and I don’t know why the Minister of Ethics is saying I have been arrested in Dubai or Kuwait or wherever,” Mr Emuobor (pictured below) said.
