  • The treason case at Nakawa Magistrates Court was in 2014 transferred to the General Court Martial where all the other co-accused are still undergoing trial.
  • Kipoi was repatriated on request and negotiations between Botswana government and the External Security Organisation (ESO).

Former Bubulo West Member of Parliament, Tony Kipoi Nsubuga, is currently being detained at Nalufenya police facility in Jinja District.

From Entebbe international airport, Kipoi and his co-accused (Robert Kitale) were driven to Mbuya military barracks, interrogated for hours before being handed over to police. They were immediately driven to Nalufenya.

Kipoi and Kitale were arrested in Botswana in January this year over charges of obtaining money by false pretense.

According to the police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima, Kipoi will be in police custody before appearing in the General Court Martial.

"Court granted him bail, he jumped bail, fled the country and has been a wanted person since then. Currently, he is at Nalufenya awaiting arrangements to take him back to court," Kayima said.

In 2013, Kipoi and other Ugandans including police officers and soldiers were charged before Nakawa Magistrates court on charges of treason before he fled the country after being granted bail.

He is alleged to have been recruiting people in both Uganda and DRC to overthrow the government. He is also alleged to have been a financer for the Allied Democratic Front (ADF) rebel group.

Apart from the treason charge, Kipoi is also wanted for a case of Human Trafficking at Bukedea Police Station under CRB 393/2013 among other cases.
