Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Lt Gen Andrew Gutti as the new chairman of the General Court Martial, replacing the late Maj Gen Levi Karuhanga.

When contacted Tuesday, the army court registrar John Bizimana confirmed that Gen Gutti was appointed as chairman of the court, replacing Karuhanga who died on April 21, 2016.
Between May 2012 and December 2013, Gen Gutti was the commander African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) based in Mogadishu, Somalia. Prior to that, he was the commander of the Uganda Senior Command and Staff College at Kimaka in Eastern Uganda.

In March this year, the General Court Martial suspended business after Karuhanga was admitted at Nakasero Hospital over stomach complications.
The spokesperson of the Military Police, Capt Edward Birungi, who also doubles as the court’s spokesperson, then said the court would not sit until Karuhanga was well.
