What you need to know:

The ferry has began making stop- overs at Kaaya Landing Site on Misonzi Island which has attracted tourists.

Kalangala- MV Amani, the alternative vessel that has been plying the Entebbe-Kalangala route since MV Kalangala was taken for overhaul in Tanzania, will start docking on more islands in the district.

MV Amani Captain Michael Okwalinga said in an interview with Daily Monitor on Tuesday that since March, the management has been identifying other areas that will benefit from the service.

“We first realised that Kasekulo Landing Site needs our services and we started that route, more routes have also been identified to boost Kalangala transport and connectivity,” Mr Okwalinga said.

There are many tourism sites within Bufumira Sub-county on Islands of Kachanga, Kitobo, Banda and Misonzi that is nearest to the main land.

According to Mr Okwalinga, the areas have started attracting more tourists since the ferry started making stop overs at Kaaya Landing Site on Misonzi to and from Kalangala to pick passengers who wait for the ferry to go either to Entebbe or Kalangala daily.

“We are overwhelmed by the number of people who wait for us at Kaaya,” Mr Okwalinga said.

Meanwhile, MV Kalangala is still grounded in Mwanza Tanzania undergoing renovation. According to the area MP, Mr Fred Badda, the ship, which was expected back around April, was originally poorly worked upon and the Ministry of Works and Transport ordered a fresh overhaul which is taking some time to get completed.
