Nominations for Kamuli municipality MP seat on today

The electoral commission todays starts the nomination process for candidates aspiring to contest in the Kamuli municipality MP by election.
Speaking to Daily Monitor, the Kamuli District returning officer Gracious Aryaija said nine aspirants picked nomination forms and three of them are expected to show up for nomination today.
“So far nine people have picked nomination papers and of the nine we are expecting to nominate three. The rest will be nominated on March 24,” he said.

High Court in Jinja has annulled the election of National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Hajati Rehema Watongola and declared Kamuli Municipality MP seat vacant following a petition filed by former Kamuli District chairperson Salaamu Musumba

Nomination is to be held at Kamuli Youth Centre with the station to be open from 9am.
Mr Aryaija said opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Salaam Musumba is expected first at noon, followed by the ruling National Resistance (NRM)’s Rehema Watongola at 2pm while Samuel Walujo, an independent is expected at 4 pm.

He has cautioned the aspiring candidates not to move with crowds when going for nomination.
“All candidates are advised that they are allowed to come with not more than two vehicles and at most 20 persons,” Mr Aryaija said.
He further noted that the others candidates are expected to be nominated on March 24, 2017.
These include Naikoba Prossy, Kiboone Michael, Wakeba Siraje, Ceaser Lukalu, Namatovu Masitula and Kasolo Babite Karim.
The polls are set for April 12, 2017.

The by-election come after High Court in Jinja annulled the election of Ms Watongola and declared Kamuli Municipality MP seat vacant following a petition filed by Ms Musumba, the former Kamuli District chairperson.
