One dead, four injured in Mabira car crash

One person has been confirmed dead while four others sustained injuries following an accident in Mabira forest in Buikwe District.
The accident that occurred at about 7:00am, involved four vehicles; and according to police, happened when a speeding trailer, registration number KBP 762R/ZB 9332, lost control and knocked a commuter Taxi registration number, UBB 419D that was Jinja bound - from Kampala.

Other vehicles involved in the accident were a Toyota Premio registration number UAZ 338Q and Toyota Prado registration number, UAA 621Y.

The identity of the deceased male was yet to be revealed by press time since he had no identification documents on him. His body was taken to Kawolo Hospital Mortuary, the Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson, Ms Hellen Butoto, said.

Ms Butoto added that the driver of the Taxi, Mr Amisha Sseyendo, 39, together with passengers: Mr Andrew Mulendu, a resident of Kamuli, Mr Joe Omara, 46, a resident of Mukono, Mr Denis Mugerwa, 20, Mr Paul Sendugi, 37, a resident of Lugazi and Mr Erick Okonko, a resident of Buikwe, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Kawolo Hospital.

Vehicles caught up in a six-hour long traffic jam in Mabira Forest following the accident

Oncoming motorists who heard of the accident beforehand were forced to access Lugazi or Jinja using Mukono-Kayunga via Njeru and Lugazi-Nyenga Road.
