Opposition leaders have rallied Rukungiri voters to show support against lifting of the presidential age limit in the Thursday woman Member of Parliament by-election.

Former FDC Presidents Rtd Gen Mugisha Muntu and Dr Kizza Besigye, current FDC president Partrick Amuriat Oboi, leader of the opposition in parliament Winnie Kizza and Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi among several opposition leaders are in Rukungiri for the final two days of campaigning for the seat that fell vacant on March 22.

“I want to call upon all the people of Rukungiri, whether NRM or FDC or any other party, to all vote for Betty Muzanira (FDC candidate). This will be the beginning of change, a vote of no confidence that those who touched the constitution were wrong. I want all of you to vote for Betty Muzanira. The whole country is waiting for you, for your voice and this will send a clear message to the country,” Mr Partrict Amuriat Oboi said during the rally at Rukungiri Taxi Park on Monday evening (May 28).

President Museveni held rallies at Nyakishenyi, Nyarushanje, Buyanja and Kebisoni while FDC held 19 rallies in Bwambara, Bugangari, Nyakagyeme and the final one in the taxi park.
“While we are here cerebrating, as I was coming I passed Kebisoni, it was mourning. We are here cerebrating but the people in Kebisoni are mourning,” Mr Amuriat said.

Mr Kyagulanyi asked the youth to come in numbers and vote for the FDC candidate as she will be one of the few voices with the same thinking as the people who voted against lifting age limit.
Gen Mugisha Muntu asked the voters not to fear the army deployed in the district as they can even be defeated with their uniforms and ammunition.

“What I tell you, we once had those uniforms, body guards and escort cars you are seeing. Do not fear those police and army officers deployed here, they actually fear you. Wake up early in the morning, cast your vote and stay at the polling station until it is counted,” Gen Muntu said.

Dr Besigye called on voters to vote in numbers and make sure they suppress any ridging that may come.
