KAMPALA. Police have started grilling a Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldier accused of killing a resident in Matugga Town Council on Sunday.
Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, said Pte Innocent Ochankawuni, attached to Bombo Military barracks is under probe on allegations of shooting dead Moses Nsereko, a 32-year-old resident of Gombe Sub County in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Police said Pte Ochankawuni, in his statement at Matugga police station, insisted that he shot Nsereko after he found him scampering with equipment belonging electricity distributor Umeme.

Pte Ochankawuni was on Sunday rescued by police from a charged mob that wanted to lynch him as they demanded for an explanation on why he had killed one of their residents.
Mr Owoyesigyire said investigators had already embarked on establishing the truth behind the accusations and counter-accusations and asked locals to remain calm as the matter is being handled.
