KAMPALA. A police officer is said to have shot himself on Wednesday during a scuffle that ensued when the football faction loyal to Dan Walusimbi, an ex-international invaded Fufa House in Mengo, a Kampala suburb.
Mr Bernard Ibanda reportedly sustained injuries after accidentally shooting himself in the leg as he tried to disperse the rowdy crowd demonstrators.

Mr Charles Nsambya, the Old Kampala Division Police Commander (DPC), confirmed the incident but said he would give details at a later stage.
“We are at the scene but I shall comment later,” Mr Nsaba said. Mr Walusimbi, an ex-international football player has for the last two years claimed to be the rightful football boss.
The demonstrators who were led by Mr Walusimbi and wearing white t-shirts with the ‘Play it, Live it’ slogan vowed not to leave until their grievances were addressed.
They claimed FUFA is controlled by corrupt people who already sold FUFA House yet it’s a public entity.

“We are the rightful people to be in that house. FUFA is now owned by Nkwanga constructions and supplies Limited. Our Njeru technical centre is in Soccer-line investments limited. They have continued to defraud the unsuspecting gullible members of the public and then use state machinery to protect themselves,” said Walusimbi.
Mr Ahmed Hussein, the FUFA communications manager condemned the attack and said, “an unfortunate incident has occurred as Daniel Walusimbi and his group had made another of their usual visit after being released last week. However, this is not what football needs. Workers and visitors must be happy when they come to the federation. We have stakeholders who will be coming to work with us and once they see this, it makes the process difficult.”
