Masindi Magistrate’s Court on Monday heard a case in which an instructor at Kabalye Police Training School is charged with attempted murder of a recruit.

Masindi Chief Magistrate Moses Angualia heard that on September 25, 2015, Special Police Constable Michael Ababa shot and wounded a police recruit Ms Jovia Kyomuhendo during a training session in Budongo Forest.

Court heard that Ms Kyomuhendo was later treated of bullet wounds while Ababa was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

During the trial, detective Assistant Inspector of Police Samson Ebilet from Masindi Police Station, who was on the investigating team, told court that he was directed by the then district criminal investigation officer, Mr Kamisafu Mugenyi, to go to Kabalye Police Training School and carry out inquiries about the attempted murder of a police trainee.

Ebilet said while at Kabalye, he searched Ababa’s house and recovered a police jacket, bullets, a blood stained AK-47 rifle and gumboots, which he packed and kept as exhibits.

He said he also visited the scene of the alleged attempted murder and found blood stained leaves and soil, which he picked as exhibit.
Court adjourned the case to September 30 for further hearing.
