The glue. Princess Bagaya says culture is the glue that binds society and should be debated and respected.

KAMPALA.
Tooro princess and senior presidential adviser on Cultural Affairs Elizabeth Bagaya, has said Uganda needs to start the debate on culture to promote unity.

The princess was launching the Buganda Tourism Expo in Mengo a Kampala suburb yesterday.
“I want us to start a debate on cultural issues. We shall not go anywhere if the spirit of culture is dead in this country,” she said.

She added the debate was important because people who want to destroy society use culture to reach their end of the bargain.
According to princess Bagaya, culture is the glue that binds society and “Buganda has managed to send a signal to other kingdoms highlighting its importance.”

The exhibition provides a platform to showcase Buganda and Uganda’s tourism potential and how it can be harnessed to spur development.
Princess Bagaya, who was flanked by the Pakistani Consular to Uganda Bonny Katatumba visited various exhibitors including those from Ankole with many of them show-casing various tourist attractions within the Buganda clans and her 18 counties.

Earlier in the day exhibitors and other participants had marched from Kasubi Royal Tombs to the venue as part of the opening activities for the one week expo, which is running under the theme “Tourism and Development in our Community through Cultural Diversity.”

“This year’s Buganda Tourism Day is intended to celebrate the cultural diversity of different kingdoms and for us to learn from each other,” said Ms Rita Namyalo Kisitu, Buganda’s state minister for Tourism.

Kabaka Ronald Mutebi 11 will officially close the 6th expo on Tuesday July 1.
