KASESE. Rwenzori region is excited about the appointment of Pastor Daniel Matte as the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church archbishop.
Pastor Matte is the first high-ranking clergy from the region. He was elected by the SDA Uganda union in November last year as the 6th archbishop. He was confirmed in January.
His predecessor, Pastor John Kakembo, hails from the central region.
During celebrations to mark his achievement organised by the residents at Rwenzori SDA Field (diocese) at Kamaiba Church at the weekend, Pastor Matte said he was humbled and delighted by the appointment.
“Success is achieved through determination and education. Most people may wonder how it happened [becoming archbishop] but by virtue of books [studying] and being God-fearing, you can achieve all your goals.”
The celebrations were attended by region leaders and clergy from all faiths. Pastor Matte encouraged parents to educate their children in order to harvest the fruits in future.
Rwenzururu King Charles Mumbere, who graced the occasion, said for years, people of the Rwenzori region used to complain that they were left behind, so the appointment of Pastor Matte is an epitome of hope.
The Minister of Defence, Dr Crispus Kiyonga, urged the Adventists to have commercial plots within the centre of the town which can help them run businesses.
Kasese Municipality MP James Bahimba asked the Archbishop to improve on Bugema University campus in Kasese because most parents fail to educate their children due to expenses involved in travelling to distant universities.
