MASINDI. Kinyara Sugar and Masindi Sugarcane Farmers Association have disagreed over cane prices for the 2016/17 financial year.
At the ongoing negotiations in Masindi District, the two parties last Thursday failed to agree on the exact figure to be paid for each tonne of supplied sugarcane with farmers insisting on Shs100,000 per tonne while Kinyara said they would only increase the price by Shs500 to Shs79,000.

Mr Cosmas Byaruhanga, the vice chairperson of the out growers association said they want a price similar to that paid by other out growers such as those who supply Kakira Sugar.
However, Mr Kirunda Magoola, the Kinyara Sugar communications manager, said they were optimistic of reaching an agreement because it is “still very early”.
