Two siblings drown after man pushes them into valley dam

Police in Mubende district have arrested a man suspected to have pushed two children into a valley dam where they died instantly.

Ivan Tukamushaba, 9 and Idene Asiimwe, 13 were reportedly sent by their parents to fetch water from a stream in Rutooma village, Kyabayima parish in Manyogaseka subcounty in Mubende district.

It is alleged that at about 5pm, a suspect who is a resident of the same area pushed the children into the dam where they drowned, the Wamala regional Police spokesperson Mr Nobert Ochom told the Daily Monitor on Friday.

The residents who had gone to fetch water found the bodies of the children floating on the water. They alerted Police at Kiganda police post which rushed to the scene. The case is being investigated under CRB 126/2018.

Witnesses have told detectives that they are in grief and shock following the incident.

“We are in pain because we do not know why an adult can do this to innocent children,” a witness reportedly told Police.

According to Ochom, the bodies have been retrieved and taken to Kiganda health centre pending a post mortem.

The Prime suspect in the incident has been arrested and he has been transferred to Mubende central police station for further management.

A detective who is part of the investigation has confided in the Daily Monitor that the suspect will be subjected to a medical test to ascertain his mental status.

Accident

In a related development, a casual labourer attached to Kikonda forest reserve in Kyankwanzi district has been knocked dead by a speeding hit and ran car along the Hoima-Kampala highway.

Police has identified the deceased as Jimmy Epila, 32 who died on spot after the accident.

According to Police, a vehicle registration number UG 0291K, a double cabin grey pick up reportedly knocked dead Epila at Kalagi trading centre in Kyankwanzi district.

Ochom said the driver first hit a motorcycle rider, lost control, knocked a bicycle rider before knocking a pedestrian who died instantly.

By press time, the motorcycles rider and the bicycle rider who sustained minor injuries had not yet been identified by Police. They reportedly left the scene shortly after the accident.

A post mortem has been done on the deceased and the body was by press time being transported to Lira for burial.

The Government vehicle which was involved in the accident has been impounded. By press time, it was being held at Kikonda police post.
