KAMPALA- The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) will turn away candidates who turn up late for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations which start tomorrow.

With the examinations scheduled to start at 9 am and again at 2 pm during week days, Uneb says candidates should be arriving at the examination centres 30 minutes earlier.

This, according to the examinations body would give the invigilators time to check the candidates before entering examination rooms.

The checking is meant to ensure the candidates do not enter the rooms with unauthorised material like textbooks and notes.

“Any candidate who comes more than fifteen minutes late from the start of an examination will not be allowed to sit the examination,” according to Uneb’s UCE timetable.

At least 323, 129 candidates spread across Uganda will be examined in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and English, Woodwork, Metal Work, Computer Studies, Latin, French and German among other subjects.

Uneb says the examinations which would run until November 23, are meant “to assess the candidates’ level of achievement”.

Although Uneb requires the candidates to arrive early at the examination centres, there were cases in the previous years when  authorities delivered examination question papers late.

In some cases, Uneb officials have blamed the delays on among other problems poor weather and the bad  road network.

Such incidents create anxiety in some students.

Passing the UCE examination with credit scores is crucial for a candidate is to be admitted to credible Advanced Level (Form Five and Form Six) schools, and later, university.
