Woman and her grandson perish in house fire

Police in Hoima are investigating an incident in which a grandmother and her grandchild burnt to death when fire gutted their home.
Beyeza Magret, a fuel vendor and her infant grandchild were burnt by fuel on Saturday.
According to police, Beyeza was selling fuel in jerrycans in small quantities at her home in Kyabiteke village, Bulindi parish in Hoima District.

“After selling fuel to a bodaboda cyclist, she forgot to fasten the lid on the jerrycan and as she was lighting the charcoal stove, it caught fire that burnt the two to death" the Albertine regional police spokesperson Mr Julius Hakiza said.
Neighbors said they tried to rescue the two but they were overwhelmed by fire.

The police was called to extinguish the fire.
"It was fire brigade that put out the fire but their limbs had already been burnt off," Mr Hakiza said.
The incident was reported to police on phone and is being investigated under Hoima CRB 1411/2018.
