Kampala- Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake was delighted to receive a clean bill of health and returns in the country anytime after spending 40 days in an Indian hospital.

Speaking to Daily Monitor from the Indian capital, New Delhi yesterday, Mr Zaake accused the State of witch-hunting Opposition politicians and declared: “Nothing will deter [our] quest to liberate the nation.”

“We will continue to be peaceful but consistent on demanding for our freedoms. The cowardly acts of brute by heavily armed men will not stop us,” Mr Zaake said.

He warned: “The government ruthlessness against its own children that it should care for is costing the regime as the population.”

Mr Zaake also recounted how the brutality meted against him in the August 13 Arua Municipality chaos almost left him dead. After spending most of the time in Intensive Care Units, he said he has forgiven his tormentors.

“I forgive them although I know they wanted me dead... The soldiers who tortured me kept asking why I disturb the President and one soldier shouted why after a lot of beating I could not die,” he said.

Slight pain
Mr Zaake said he endured numerous medical examinations and can now stand with slight pain. The people he suspected to be security operatives dumped him at Rubaga Hospital before he flew to India for specialised treatment.

The MP accused soldiers of torturing him with electric machines and dislocating his spine discs and neck bones.

“My skin is peeling but doctors have assured me that I am out of danger, although I suffer episodes of paralysis in my legs,” he said.

Mr Zaake added that during his torture, he was injected with substances, hit with gun butts and iron bars. He added that they hit his limbs and pliers were used to pull parts of his body.

Mr Zaake also claimed that the doctors found foreign agents in his blood.
He said his medical bills that amount to Shs110m will be paid for by AAR Medical Insurance after government’s refusal to meet the expenses. He is part of the people who were charged with treason following the Arua Municipality chaos.
