Kenyan police, opposition supporters clash over Raila’s return

Police in Kenya have used teargas to disperse opposition supporters marching on Mombasa Road to welcome former presidential contender Raila Odinga.
Leaders of the National Super Alliance mobilised dozens of their supporters to the airport Friday to welcome their leader who has been on a 10-day visit to the US.
There was heavy police presence around Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where the opposition leader and Mr Kalonzo Musyoka landed.
Police also blocked some NASA leaders from entering the airport. The leaders were accompanied by a crowd that was chanting anti-Jubilee slogans.
Several vehicles were destroyed and a few motorists injured during the chaos on Mombasa Road.
One police officer was injured during the fracas after he was hit by a stone allegedly hurled by a NASA supporter.

The plane carrying Mr Odinga and his daughter Winnie landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the capital Nairobi at about 11.13am.

The plane touched down as police engaged his supporters, who wanted to force their way into the heavily guarded airport, in running battles.
